ABDOMINAL PAIN

What is abdominal pain?

There are many causes of abdominal pain, some of which can be serious, whilst many others are not. Your specialist will take a detailed history from you that can give some indication of the likely cause of the pain. Following a thorough physical examination, it is usually necessary to arrange further investigations to try to establish a firm diagnosis; these can include blood tests, ultrasound and CT scans, in addition to endoscopic examinations. The treatment of abdominal pain will vary according to what the cause is.

Despite extensive investigation, sometimes people experience abdominal pain where no specific cause can be found. In this scenario, it is important to achieve symptomatic relief, either through lifestyle modifications, drug therapies or complimentary therapies.
